The First 7 Things to Do Now That
You're Engaged
Congratulations! You just got engaged, and we could not be more excited for you. Here at The Bride Box, we know engagements, and the swag that goes along with it is kind of our thing. So don’t worry, we got you. The first days after saying yes are a whirlwind of social media posts, congratulatory messages, and champagne that can leave you swooning on cloud nine. During this time, everyone will come out of the woodwork to tell you what you should and should not do. You will have questions, questions, and oh yeah, more questions. We hope that we answer some of those here in this blog. You deserve the best for your special day, but you can’t start planning it until you get the basics covered. Here’s a checklist of first seven things to do after getting engaged.
1. Take a Deep Breath (or two, or three):

First and foremost, take some time to enjoy this moment. Before you announce the big news to the world, spend some time with each other, soaking up the awesomeness that is you, engaged. Once everyone finds out, the planning adventure begins. So, take that moment to breathe and share the joy together in your new phase. Go out for dinner, drinks, and a movie, or just binge-watch your favorite Netflix show at home on the couch. It’s okay to have a secret from the rest of the world, especially when that secret is as lovely as this one.
2. Shout it From the Rooftop (or maybe just from the internet)
You’ve taken some time for yourselves, and now it’s time to spill those beans on your social media pages. First, figure out how you want your announcement to look. If you know any photographers who can do a professional engagement photo shoot, then go for it. Personally, we are fans of a simple, outdoor ring selfie. So, get that manicure, put on your favorite seasonal dress, snaps those pics, and compose that caption. Now, the only thing left to do is press “share” and wait for the congrats to come flooding in.
3. Organization Extravaganza:

You cannot start planning anything, let alone a wedding, without first getting organized. Figure out what kind of planner you are first. Do you like making notes and saving receipts, pamphlets, or business cards? Your best bet is to get a wedding planning binder from Amazon or your local bookshop. Are you digitally savvy and prefer to have everything at your fingertips on your phone? Download Zola or any of the other latest wedding planning apps. Whatever your method of choice is, spend some time getting to know the ins and outs so that you can hit the ground running.

4. What & Where:
Your first entry in your app or binder should be your date and theme. It may be hard to plan your special day if these things are not squared away first. If most people are only able to attend in the summer, you may hit a snag with a Winter Wonderland theme. Decide which concept is more important to you (date or theme), and then plan the other to fit that choice.
5. Bridal Party Pondering:

You know them, you love them, and you cannot get married without them. It’s time to start picking who you want in your bridal party. Your maid of honor should be the easiest choice. She’s your sister, your bestie, your ride-or-die, and she’s been by your side from the beginning. Your bridesmaids should also be an easy choice, but these decisions can sometimes create hurt feelings. Consider the people you have been closest to for a long time. Remember, this is your special day, so do not let anyone make you feel pressured or obligated. Once you have your bridesmaids set, get together for a celebratory night with your girls.
6. Pinning Party:
If you are at a loss with what kind of theme or elements you want in your wedding, or if you just want to get more inspired, then get started on that mood board NOW. You can use Pinterest or We Heart It to create different boards for different areas of your wedding. Having several dress ideas pinned, just in case you are not able to get your original choice might be a good idea. Having a board for different food options might be wise if the food supplier runs out of a particular ingredient. Creating an inspiration hub is not only great for inspiration, but it’s a good place to prepare yourself with backup plans.
7. Treat Yo-Self:

Listen, we are not going to lie to you. Even if you a Zen master, planning your wedding will come with its stresses. Make sure that you do something nice for yourself every day, week, and month. These do not have to be expensive endeavors. They could be as simple as soaking in some Epsom salts at the end of the day, getting your favorite ice cream once a week, or buying yourself some bridal goodies once a month [link to subscription page maybe?]. Whatever you decide on, make sure that it’s something that is just for you and nobody else. You deserve it now that you’re a bride-to-be.
That’s the first things to do after getting engaged, bride babes. Good luck with your wedding planning journey. We know that you’re gonna kill it. Tag us in your wedding adventures, we would love to see our brides in action. @thebridebox and #thebridebox.
